The Albertus Magnus College community participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the opening of its new turf surface on Celentano Field on Wednesday, August 31.
Albertus Magnus College President Dr. Julia M. McNamara spoke to the crowd and welcomed the new addition to the college, while Andrea Kovacs, Vice President for Marketing, counted down to the ribbon cutting as everyone in attendance got the opportunity to cut the ceremonial ribbon.
Albertus Magnus, a Division III institution, has also expanded its athletic program to include women’s and men’s lacrosse. In the spring of 2012, lacrosse will be a club sport with intercollegiate competition scheduled to begin in the spring of 2013.
The renovation and expansion of the field includes a new walking track for use by the College community and by members of the New Haven community as well.
“Completion of this project, which began at the end of May, signals a new era in athletics for the College,” said Dr. Julia M. McNamara. “The entire Albertus community is excited by this addition to the campus.”
The first Falcon home game on the turf field will take place on Monday, Sept. 12 as the men’s soccer team will play host to Regis College at 4:00 p.m.
