Cross Country Finishes Purchase Invitational despite Rain and Tornado Warnings

Despite the heavy rains and tornado warnings, the Fifth Annual Purchase College Invitational went on as scheduled as both the Albertus Magnus men's and women's cross country teams finished in sixth place. The Falcons' men's team tallied 145 points, while the women's team finished with 236 in their first race of the 2012 season.

On the men's side, the Falcons were led by John Snow as he ran the 8k race in 33:27.1 to take 23rd place as the top-finisher for Albertus. The United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) took first place as the top-12 finishers came from the USMMA squad. With only the top-five runners counting towards the points standings, USMMA took first place with 28 points. Andrew Walsh was the winner in the men's race as he represented USMMA.

The Culinary Institute of America (CIA) took second with 78 points, while Farleigh Dickinson rounded out the top-three teams with 87 points.

Glenn Johnson was the second Falcon runner to finish as he recorded a time of 39:32.3 for 43rd place. Castel Jean-Francois, Ben Spilka and Michael Arbuthnot finished together in 46th, 47th and 48th place, while Sinque Tavaras took 51st place in 45:26.7.

The Falcons' women's cross country team was led by Lianna Carrero as she took 38th place in the 5k race with a time of 29:03.1. Latoya Agnew, Michelle Barillaro, Amanda Green and Leyna Andren all competed for the Falcons as well.

USMMA took first in the team scores with 41 points, while CIA also had 41 points for second place. Purchase took third in its home meet. Katherine Henri from Purchase won the event.

Sarah Lawrence did not score as a team in either the men's or women's races, while NYU-POLY did not score as a team in the women's competition.
