West Haven, CT - The Albertus Magnus College Men's Baseball Program split a Great Northeast Athletic Conference Double Header with visiting Rivier College on a cold Sunday afternoon at Quigley Stadium.
Game One featured another quality starting pitching performance for the Falcons. Freshman Matthew Finkenzeller (Wolcott, CT) went six strong innings giving up scattering eight hits while giving up three runs to go along with three strikeouts. Sophomore reliever Cullen Burnell cam on in relief in the seventh inning to finish the eventual 7-4 victory. Albertus was led by senior Erik Suraci (West Haven, CT) and senior Peter Rogan (Middletown, CT) who chipped in two hits each. Eight Falcons ended with hits on the day as the Falcons took game one.
Game Two saw the Falcons take teh early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when senior Erik Suraci (West Haven, CT) singled in sophomore Rob Gambardella (North Haven, CT). Rivier College responded in the top half of the second inning scoring four runs on four hits and two walks. Trailing 4-1, Albertus battled back to tie the game 4-4 plating two runs on sophomore Chris Dady's (East Haven, CT) RBI double and junior Kyle Calechman's (North Haven, CT) RBI single. After a scoreless third inning for both teams, Rivier put together a large rally. The Falcons gave up eight runs on four hits while committing four errors as Rivier took the 12-4 lead. Senior Peter Rogan used an RBI double to drive in Suraci in the bottom half of the fifth to make the score 12-5 but the Falcons couldn't overcome their fourth inning errors. Rivier would go to score two more runs in the top of the seventh for the eventual 14-5 victory. The Falcons are 4-12, 2-2 GNAC on the season and play host to Coast Guard weather permitting on Monday at 3:30pm.
