Falcons Split Double Header at Emerson College

Malden, MA - The Albertus Magnus College Falcons Baseball Program split a double header with host Emerson College.  The Falcons lost Game one 2-0 but won Game two 7-4 on a cold and windy afternoon.

Game one featured an outstanding complete game pitching performance from junior southpaw Charles Chancio (Oxford, CT) who went all seven innings with 10 strikeouts only allowing three hits and two walks.  Emerson senior righthander Brian NcNamara (Londonderry, NH) was also outstanding in his complete game shutout with nine strikeouts allowing three hits and five walks.

Game two featured another outstanding complete game pitching performance.  Senior right BJ Senna (Wallingford, CT) went all seven innings with seven strikeouts allowing one earned run and four hits on the afternoon.  The Falcons led 1-0 after the first inning.  Emerson college appeared to be thrown out at second base but was able to use a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 1-1 going into the top of the third.  The Falcons used an RBI double from senior Erik Suraci (West Haven, CT) and RBI single from senior Peter Rogan (Middletown, CT) to take the 3-1 lead.  Emerson College would tie the game 3-3 in the fifth inning on two unearned runs to keep the game close.  The turning point in the game came in the bottom half of the sixth inning when Senna struck out sophomore Austin Fontenella (Pelham, NH) looking at a called third strike in the 17th pitch of the at bat to end the inning.  The Falcons responded in the top half of the seventh inning as Suraci belted a solo blast over the left centerfield wall to put Albertus ahead 4-3.  Sophomore infielder Jon Almonte (Lower East Side, NY) lined a bases clearing double to put the Falcons ahead 7-3.  Emerson would plate another unearned run in the home half of the seventh to make the final score 7-4.  Albertus improves 3-11, 1-1 GNAC and will take on GNAC opponent Rivier College at Quigley Stadium for a 12:00 pm start.
