The Albertus Magnus baseball team fell to CCNY 9-3 in game two of the non-conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon in West Haven. CCNY (14-16) scored six runs in the third inning en route to the victory.
CCNY took a 1-0 lead in the second inning then added six more runs in the third. The Beavers were led by a triple from Kennedy Tavarez.
The Beavers took an 8-0 lead with a run in the fourth.
The Falcons (11-21) were held without a hit until the fourth inning, when they recorded three in the frame, but were unable to capitalize and score.
With two outs in the fifth, the Falcons put two runners on and then scored them both on a throwing error to first.
In the sixth, CCNY put two runners in scoring position on back-to-back hits before Richard Bethea grounded out to short but plated the Beavers' ninth run of the contest.
Albertus scored one run in the sixth to make the score 9-3.
Kyle Soules (Wallingford, Conn.) earned his first start and gave up four runs on six hits in two innings of work.
Tom Moore (East Haven, Conn.) came out of the bullpen in the third inning as he threw an inning of relief for the Falcons. Moore allowed three runs on three hits to go along with a walk and strikeout.
Dave DeRubeis (Milford, Conn.) also came out of the pen for the Falcons to pitch the fourth followed by Mike Saia (Bridgeport, Conn.) who came in and threw the fifth. He struck out the side in the frame.
Ted Gravel (Morris, Conn.) moved from behind the plate to the mound in the top of the sixth inning for the Falcons as he allowed one run on two hits in his inning of work.
Nick Sedia (Bronx, N.Y.) moved from short to the mound to pitch the seventh. He forced a groundout and then struck out a batter before a single to left by Jonathan Abreu. The next batter grounded into a fielder's choice to end the top half of the seventh inning.
The Beavers' Sacha Urbach pitched the complete game as he allowed three runs on seven hits. He struck out five batters in the win and improved to 4-1 on the year.
