Mitch Oliver is entering his third season as Head basketball coach at Albertus Magnus College.
Coach Oliver led Albertus to its' first winning season in 7 years and GNAC semi-final appearance this past season including a 78-50 upset playoff victory over #2 seed Emerson college. The 14 wins were more than the last four seasons combined and a 10 win improvement from the previous season. Freshman Ray Askew was named 2008-09 GNAC rookie of the year, Francisco Cordova was named third team All Conference and Walden St Juste was named to the GNAC All-Tournament Team.
Before Albertus, Coach Oliver had been a veteran of a decade as a Division I Men's Assistant Basketball coach recently serving seven seasons at Northeast Conference member Quinnipiac University. Oliver acted as the programs recruiting coordinator and helped the Bobcats to three Northeast Conference Semi-Final appearances and one Northeast Conference Championship game appearance which was televised nationally on ESPN.
During Oliver's tenure he helped the Bobcats capture the Hofstra University 2002 Tipoff Tournament Championship and the 2003 Hawaii-Hilo Tournament Championship. Quinnipiac also made an appearance in the prestigious Preseason NIT in 2004.
While at Quinnipiac Oliver recruited and coached seven All-NEC players, one NEC Rookie of the Year and 13 players who moved on to play at the professional level.
Before arriving at Quinnipiac Oliver also served three seasons
as Assistant Men's Basketball coach at Northeast Conference
Division I Sacred Heart University. Oliver started his career as an
Assistant Basketball Coach as Foran and Bunnell High Schools.
Wielk is entering his third season under Head Coach Mitch
Oliver. Wielk played four seasons at St. Joe's (Trumbull, CT)
High School before moving on to a successful college career at
Nichols. Wielk played four seasons at Nichols being named
Captain his senior season. Coach Wielk has had coaching
stints at Platt Tech High School, Westbrook High School, and most
recently Notre Dame Fairfield High School.
Coach Thompson is entering his third season under Head Coach
Mitch Oliver. Thompson played four years at Quinnipiac
University from 1999-2003 being named Captain his senior
season. In 2000, Thompson became the first walk-on player to
earn a full Division I scholarship in program history.
Coach Kennedy joins the Falcons staff this season after coaching several years in the Bridgeport area. Kennedy has coached in the Cardinal Sheehan Youth League for the past seven seasons. He has coached Basketball and Football the past three seasons at Bridgeport Central High School.
