Omar Ramirez Named Head Men's and Women's Volleyball Coach
The Albertus Magnus College Athletic Department would like to announce the appointment of Omar Ramirez to the positions of Head Men's and Women's Volleyball Coach effective immediately. He has been an assistant coach on the Men's Volleyball team since it's inception two seasons ago and has been an assistant coach for the Women's Volleyball program for the past three seasons. Coach Ramirez served as an assistant coach for the University of New Haven men's volleyball team in 2008. Ramirez was a four-year player for the Chargers as a 5'8" libero and defensive specialist. In 2007, a Captain, he led UNH with 129 digs (1.84 digs per game) while playing in 70 of the team's 75 games. During his career, Omar played in 232 games and recorded 403 digs, an average of 1.74 per game. A native of Adjuntas, Puerto Rico, he has enjoyed and learned from the Puerto Rican professional volleyball league since he was five years old. He started playing Volleyball at the age of 15 after playing baseball and earning numerous awards his younger years. In his first year as a Volleyball player an outside hitter at 5'5", he played in LIVA (a local league in his native Adjuntas, PR) he made the all-star team and earned the all-star tournament MVP and LIVA MVP. He has also traveled to the Dominican Republic with his Adjuntas Team to play against the Dominican Republic Youth National team.
