Steve Jewett Named First-Ever Women's Lacrosse Coach

Albertus Magnus College Director of Athletics Michael Spinner has announced the hiring of Steve Jewett as the college's first-ever Head Women's Lacrosse Coach. Jewett, a resident of nearby Guilford, Connecticut, comes to Albertus after distinguishing himself as an outstanding lacrosse figure in Connecticut during the last 20 years. Jewett previously served as Head Lacrosse Coach at Mitchell College during the 2009 and 2010 seasons, after an outstanding 17-year career as the Head Lacrosse Coach at Hamden Hall High School.

"We are thrilled to welcome Steve Jewett to Albertus Magnus College to begin our women's lacrosse program," Spinner said. "During the interview process, it was clear that Steve not only has the background and passion for lacrosse to be very successful here, but he also has earned the reputation as a true professional who understands the importance of balancing academics and athletics. As a full-time educator, Steve will provide a great role model for our student-athletes, and I am very excited to see him build an outstanding women's lacrosse program at Albertus Magnus College."

Currently a Lower School Science teacher at Hamden Hall, Jewett is a graduate of St. Lawrence University, and is a regular on the summer lacrosse camp scene.

Albertus Magnus College announced the addition of men's and women's lacrosse as the school's 13th and 14th varsity sports in December of 2010. The addition coincides with a renovation to the campus's game field during the summer of 2011 that will include a turf playing surface.
