Women's Tennis Cruises to 7-2 Win Over Lehman

Bronx, N.Y. – The Albertus Magnus College women's tennis team opened up the 2017 campaign with a 7-2 road victory over Lehman College on Saturday afternoon in non-conference play.

The duo of Jessica Couglin (Durhamn, Conn.) and Izzy Sabino (Cheshire, Conn.) started things off for the Falcons with a 8-0 shutout in No. 2 doubles. In No. 1 singles, Lehman took the first doubles flight, 8-2 as Sacha Espiritu teamed with Lizaveta Markouskaya to earn the win over Alicia Weaver (Bethel, Conn.) and Kelsea Wildman (Hamden, Conn.).The combination of Nallely Magana (East Haven, Conn.) and Paige Williams (Orange County, Va.) took the doubles win in the No. 3 slot by a score of 8-3.

Lehman's Espiritu was also victorious in singles play, winning from the first position against Weaver, love and two.

In her first collegiate match, Coughlin put up a strong effort in No. 2 singles, defeating her opponent 6-4, 7-5. 

The other singles matches all went to Albertus Magnus by scores of 6-0 & 6-0, 6-2 & 6-3, 6-2 & 6-0 and 6-1 & 6-1.

The Falcons return to action on Saturday, Sept. 9 as the team hosts Division II rival the University of New Haven. First serve is set for 11 a.m. at the Celentano Courts. The Lehman College women's tennis team returns to the hardcourt on Tuesday, September 12, when they host St. Joseph's at 4:30 PM.
