Albertus Magnus College To Pause Swimming and Diving as Intercollegiate Sports

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Albertus Magnus College has announced that it will pause its men's and women's swimming and diving programs indefinitely, effective immediately.

This decision came after a thorough review of the programs.

"The addition of swimming and diving, beginning with women's competition in 2019 and expanding to include men's competition in 2023, reflected Albertus Magnus College's commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for student-athletes and strengthening participation across our athletics programs," said Director of Athletics, Michael Kobylanski. "Over the last several years, our swimming and diving student-athletes have represented Albertus with integrity, demonstrated strong academic achievement, and contributed positively to our campus community.

After careful review and thoughtful consideration, the College determined that sustained low roster numbers since each program's inception have made it increasingly difficult to provide the competitive environment and overall student-athlete experience that aligns with our expectations and values. While this was not an easy decision, we believe it is the most responsible path at this time. We remain grateful to the student-athletes, coaches, and supporters who helped establish these programs, and should future interest and enrollment demand support renewed viability, the College would welcome the opportunity to revisit swimming and diving in the years ahead."

Albertus Magnus College and its athletic department remain committed to investing in an athletic experience that supports student success, belonging, and competitive excellence, and will provide support to all student-athletes affected by this announcement.
