Providence, RI - The Albertus Magnus College Baseball Program dropped both games of the GNAC Double Header to host Johnson and Wales University on Sunday afternoon. The Falcons staged a late comeback in Game One, only to have a baserunning miscue end the rally. Game One featured junior southpaw Charles Chancio (Oxford, CT) pitching six innings giving up five runs (four earned) while scattering six hits and striking out nine. Albertus wasted no time scoring two runs in the top of the first only to allow Johnson and Wales to score three runs in the bottom half of the inning, making the score 3-2. The Falcons struggled to find consistency at the plate until the top of the seventh. Sophomore Jon Almonte (Lower East Side, NY) used a seven pitch at bat to single up the middle to lead off the inning. After a fly out to right field, freshman Matt Caputo (East Haven, CT) singled to put runners at 1st and 2nd with one out. Senior Peter Rogan (Middletown, CT) doubled in a run to make the score 5-3 with one out and runners at 2nd and 3rd. Sophomore Malcom Mendez (Lower East Side, NY) laced a hard sinking line drive in front of the centerfielder scoring pinch runner Jim Stanley (North Haven, CT) to make the score 5-4. Rogan, who was frozen by the line drive then slipped while stopping at 3rd base and was tagged out by the third baseman for the second out of the inning. Senior Cameron Giordano (Hamden, CT) hit a hard ground ball to the shortstop who tossed to 2nd base to end the game in heartbreaking fashion for the Falcons 5-4. Game Two saw freshman matt Finkenzeller (Wolcott, CT) struggle lasting only two innings and eventually being charged with 10 earned runs. Junior Kyle Calechman (North Haven, CT) had two hits for the Falcons in Game Two. Albertus drops to 8-18, 4-6 GNAC on the season and looks to rebound as they host Mount Saint Mary's (NY) at 7:00 pm at Quigley Stadium.
