West Haven, CT - The Albertus Magnus College Baseball Program suffered another heartbreaking loss as their ninth inning rally came up short against visiting Mount Saint Mary's College 11-10. The Falcons took an early lead in the game on an inside the park three-run homerun by senior Cameron Giordano (Hamden, CT) and a long solo-homerun by junior Kyle Calechman (North Haven, CT) to make the score 4-0 through four innings. Freshman starter Kevin Anastasio (South Windsor, CT) was nearly perfect through four innings before faltering and giving up the lead. Going into the bottom of the ninth, the Falcons trailed 11-8 when Calechman crushed a long triple to start the inning. Sophomore Jon Almonte (Lower East Side, NY) was hit by a pitch along with senior Erik Suraci (West Haven, CT) loading the bases. Senior Peter Rogan just missed the pitch resulting in a sacrifice fly making the score 11-9 with one out. Sophomore Malcom Mendez (Lower East Side, NY) hit a 3-2 pitch right at the second baseman for thesecond out. Almonte then stole third base and scored on an errant throw from the catcher to make the score 11-10 with Suraci at second base and two outs. Freshman Jim Stanley (North Haven, CT) battled in the at-bat driving a deep fly ball to right center that was caught just in front of the warning track to end the game. Calechamn finished 3-4 with a homerun and two triples on the day. Albertus drops to 8-19, 4-6 GNAC and looks to rebound on 4:00 pm Wednesday against in state rival Western Connecticut State University at Quigley Stadium.
