NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College baseball team lost a 6-5 non-conference game to the United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) on Thursday afternoon.

Adriel Espada (Bridgeport, Conn.) went 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run. Mark Whittington (Meriden, Conn.) had one hit, an RBI and a run on the day. Eric Galarza (Bridgeport, Conn.) and Brayden Hastings (Wallingford, Conn.) each drove in a run.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Coast Guard jumped on the board with three runs in the bottom of the first inning, after loading the bases to begin the game. Tyler Michalek hit a two-run double to highlight the inning.
• The Falcons answered with all five of their runs in the top of the second inning. After loading the bases with no outs, which included singles by Noah Grosso (Farmington, Conn.) and Alex Perez (Meriden, Conn.), Espada ripped a two-run single to put the Falcons on the board. Whittington added an RBI single of his own and Galarza and Hastings added a sacrifice fly to put the Falcons ahead, 5-3.
• Coast Guard added a run in the third on an RBI single by Ayden Gurevich and Nate Stafford drew a bases loaded walk to tie the game, 5-5 in the bottom of the sixth.
• The two teams didn't score over the next two innings, but in the bottom of the ninth, Michalek doubled to start the inning for the Bears, where he would be pinch ran for by Mason Phillips. After a fielder's choice moved him to third, a sacrifice fly to centerfield by Yadisson Karbalaieasghar brought home Phillips for the game-winning run.
