CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Albertus Magnus College field hockey team won its first game of the season in a 2-0 victory over Elms College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match on Sunday afternoon.
Mariya Helmbold (Bellmawr, N.J.) and Laurel Maus (Woodbridge, Conn.) each scored a goal for the Falcons.
Ella Welton (Cliffwood, N.J.) earned her first shutout of the season, finishing the day with three saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Helmbold got the Falcons on the board at the 9:02 mark as Helmbold found a loose ball in the scoring area and backhanded a shot shot in the air over the head of Elms goaltender, Kaitlyn Lynes into the back of the net to make it a 1-0 game. It was Helmbold's first goal of the season.
- Albertus went into the half leading by a goal but quickly added a second goal less than a minute into the third quarter as Maus scored her second goal of the finding a loose ball in front of the net.
