Men's Golf Sits In First Place After First Round Of GNAC Championship; Hester Shoots 73

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - After shooting a 36-over par 316, the Albertus Magnus College men's golf team currently sits in first place after the first round of the 2025 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship at New Haven Country Club.

Leading the way for Albertus is Pierson Hester (Nashville, TN), who currently resides in second place. Hester shot a three-over par 73, including a hole out for an eagle from 127 yards on the par four fourth hole. He also finished his round with a birdie on the 18th hole.

Mason Sassu (Rocky Hill, Conn.) is tied for fourth after shooting a seven-over par 77. He finished with one birdie on the day with nine pars.

Also in the top ten is Nick Piselli (Milford, Conn.), who sits in ninth place after an 11-over par 81. Piselli had a birdie on the 10th hole and had seven pars on the day.

Senior Kyle Sikorski (Norwich, Conn.) led the Falcons with two birdies on both the fourth and  10th holes as he shot a 15-over par 85 as he currently sits in 19th place.

Andrew Buckholz (New Haven Conn.) finished a shot behind Sikorski, and finished his round with one birdie on the 18th hole.

The Falcons led the field in par four scoring at 4.58 and tied with Norwich in par five scoring at 5.10.

Albertus leads Emmanuel College by five strokes after the Saints shot a 41-over par 321. Two-time defending GNAC champion New England College and Norwich University are tied for third, a shot behind Emmanuel.

Cooper Bertrand of Norwich is the current individual leader after shooting a one-over par 71. He led the field with five birdies on the day.

The tournament will resume at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday for the second and final round as the Falcons looks for their second GNAC Championship in program history.
