Men's Ice Hockey Falls To No. 10 Utica

UTICA, N.Y. - The Albertus Magnus College men's ice hockey team lost a 10-4 United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) game to No. 10 Utica University on Friday evening.

Brett Boucher (Fort McMurray, Alberta) had a goal and an assist for the Falcons, while Bailey Kirwin (Barrie, Ontario), Caden Pattison (Lake Stevens, Wash.) and Maksim Tsegelnik (Moscow, Russia) each had a goal for Albertus.

Kyle Dann (Windham, N.H.) and Connor Bertamini (Calgary, Alberta) each had two assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Falcons struck first in a back and forth first period as Tsegelnik stole the puck in front of the blue line and ripped a wide open slap shot past Utica goaltender, Kyle Curtin to make it a 1-0 game just 4:35 into the game.
  • After Utica tied the game on a power-play goal by Nicholas Rogers, Boucher made a pass from behind the net to Pattison who took a shot from the left faceoff circle past Curtin, making it a 2-1 game at the 15:39 mark of the first period.
  • Utica tied the game again less than two minutes later as Mathieu MacMillan gathered a loose puck in front of the net and tied the game after putting the puck past Albertus goaltender, Chace Hale (Pittsburgh, Pa.)
  • The Pioneers scored twice in the second period, the first time on a power-play goal by Nick Ahern who snapped a shot shortly after a faceoff to give them their first lead of the game at the 7:56 mark. Less than a minute later, Alexander Gullichsen scored a wraparound goal to make it a 4-2 game going into the third period.
  • Boucher scored his third goal in as many games just 1:04 into the third period as Boucher took the puck from the opposing blue line and raced down the ice to put one past Curtin making it a 4-3 game.
  • Utica would go on a stretch of scoring three goals in a 42 second span, including the second of the game by Rogers as the Pioneers took a 7-3 lead at the 5:01 mark.
  • Kirwin added a shorthanded goal for the Falcons at the 8:59 mark as they were down two players on the ice as he raced down the ice and beat Curtin one-on-one.
  • The Pioneers would add three more power play goals in the third period.
