Strecker Scores Four Goals, But Men's Lacrosse Loses To Regis In GNAC Opener

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College men's lacrosse team opened up Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play, losing to the Pride of Regis College, 12-10, on Sunday afternoon at Celentano Field. 

Cooper Strecker (Chester, Conn.) scored a team-high four goals, and also had a pair of assists on the day. Marcus Burrows (West Haven, Conn.) netted a hat trick, his second of the season.  DaKari Coleman (Norwalk, Conn.) had a team-high 13 ground balls.

Alexis Gonzalez (Edison, NJ) started in goal for the Falcons, making 17 saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The Falcons jumped to an early 1-0 lead within the first minute of play, as Sean Keenan (Franklin Square, N.Y.) took a centering pass from Strecker and scored his first goal of the game.
  • The Pride answered back courtesy of Nick Klein, scoring his first of five goals on the day. The Pride would close out the quarter with two more goals, both by Ian Brown.
  • Regis started the scoring in the second quarter as Klein found the net for the next two Pride goals.
  • The Falcons added two goals late in the quarter, the first by Burrows as he rifled one between the pipes from a quick pass by Nicholas Longo (Ridge, N.Y.). Keenan added another goal with only 14 seconds left before halftime to put the Falcons within two going into the half.
  • It only took 19 seconds into the second half to resume the scoring as Jack Jaynes sent one past Gonzalez to double the Pride's lead. The Falcons answered right back only 20 seconds later, as Burrows notched his second of the game.
  • There were eight more goals scored in the third, as Streker scored his first two goals of the game in the quarter.
  • The Falcons trailed 7-5 in the third, but goals by Longo and Burrows, tied the game up. Klein then scored two more for the Pride to give them a two-goal lead once again. Strecker scored his second goal of the quarter with 41 seconds remaining, but Regis held a 10-8 lead heading to the fourth.
  • Strecker scored on an unassisted goal in the fourth to make it a one-goal game once again, but goals by Brown and Jack Jaynes of Regis put the Pride back ahead by three. Strecker added his fourth goal of the game with 5:06 remaining for the final tally of the game.

This is the fourth time in his career that Strecker has scored four times in a game, which is a career high for goals in a game for the senior attacker.
