Arent, Scheid Make All-GNAC Team; Molkenthin Earns All-Sportsmanship Nod

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College softball team was well-represented on the All-Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) teams as Skylar Arent (Ridgefield, Conn.) made the first team as a designated player and outfielder Paige Scheid (Cedar Grove, N.J.) was named to the second team as the conference released its major award winners and all-conference teams. Catcher Erin Molkenthin (East Haddam, Conn.) was named to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship team.

It is the third appearance on an All-GNAC team for Arent who was named to the third team and the All-Rookie team in 2022.

Arent did it all for the Falcons this season, both at the plate and in the circle. Her slash lines for the season were .340/.455/.490 with 34 hits, including eight doubles, two triples and a home run, 17 RBI and 20 runs. As a pitcher, Arent finished the season pitching 81.1 innings - including six starts - with six wins, four complete games, 33 strikeouts and a 3.61 ERA.

She had nine multi-hit games on the season, including four three-hit performances. Two of those three-hit performances came in both games of a doubleheader against Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in a doubleheader sweep on March 22 where she finished the day 6-for-8 with two doubles, a triple, two RBI and four runs. She also earned the win in game two, as she didn't allow an earned run in 1.2 innings of relief.

In a 9-4 win over Saint Joseph's (Me.), Arent went 3-for-5 with two doubles, three RBI and a run. She also earned the win in that game, throwing five innings, giving up just two earned runs on six hits, while striking out one.

Arent had two five-strikeout performances, including throwing seven innings giving up just three earned runs on six hits in a 9-6 win over New England College on April 13. She also struck out five batters in the second game of a doubleheader against Lasell.

Scheid makes her first appearance on the All-GNAC team after setting the table as a leadoff hitter all season. Scheid had slash lines of .408/.451/.493 while finishing the season with 58 hits, which led the GNAC during the regular season. She had eight doubles, two triples, drove in 15 runs and scored 34 times. In her 156 plate appearances, she struck out just three times.

Scheid had 19 mult-ihit games, including going 4-for-5 with a run, an RBI and a stolen base in a win over Saint Joseph's (Me.). In a doubleheader sweep of Elms on April 28, Scheid reached base safely in her first seven plate appearances, finishing the day going 6-for-8 with a walk, two runs, one RBI and three stolen bases. She also scored three runs against Saint Mary's (Ind.) and hit two doubles against New England College on April 13.

Arent and Scheid were both named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll twice this season.

Nine of the last ten seasons, the Albertus softball team has had at least two members on an All-GNAC team.

Molkenthin appeared in all 42 games this season, mostly behind the plate. She had a career-high 30 hits this season, including seven doubles and a home run while driving in 20 runs and scoring 14. She had a season-high three hits in a game against the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) and drove in three runs twice in a game this season in wins over Wilmington (Ohio) on March 10 and New England College on April 13.
