HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Jabs and Wesleyan's Abby Orso matched scoreless innings through the first five frames. Both pitchers started hot in the first inning as Jabs had two strikeiuts while Orso struck out the side, sandiwched with a walk. It was the only baserunner allowed by Orso until the sixth inning.
  • In the third inning, Wesleyan threatened to score but after a ball was hit to left field by Rebecca Cassel-Siskind, Ella DeCrescenzo was thrown out at the plate trying to score by Gabby Rubino (Southington, Conn.), keeping the game scoreless.
  • Wesleyan broke the scoreless tie in the top of the sixth as Cat Palmer hit a two-run double after Cassel-Siskind doubled and Bella Secaira-Cotto singled earlier in the inning.
  • The Falcons remained hitless until the bottom of the seventh. After a walk to Arent, Scwhippert singled to centerfield and advanced to second after a misplay on the hit that also moved Arent to third. Two batters later Edwards had a bunt single, allowing Arent to score and putting runners on the corner. Pinch hitter Megan Cross followed with a bunt of her own to the pitcher, Orso. Scwhippert broke towards home and slid around the tag by Orso, tying the game, 2-2. With runners on second and third, a bunt by Boulli plated Edwards, who beat the throw for the game-winning run.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Game two started similarly to game one, with another pitchers' duel between Arent and Wesleyan's Jacelyn Lees. After Arent retired the side in order in the top of the first, she was hit by a pitch with two outs in the bottom of the inning with two outs. Scwhippert then followed with a double, but Arent was thrown out at the plate, keeping the game scoreless.
  • Albertus had a chance to score in the bottom of the third with runners on second and third with one out, but were unable to get a run across.
  • The Falcons finally broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth. Izzy Barreiro doubled to left to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt. Two batters later, Carrano ripped a double to left to score Rubino, who pinch ran for Barreiro.
  • Arent continued to cruise through Wesleyan's lineup and didn't allow a runner to second base until the sixth inning. In that inning, the Cardinals put runners on second and third, but a line drive by Palmer was snagged on a diving catch by Edwards, preserving the one-run lead.
  • Wesleyan threatened to score in the top of the seventh as Waverly Smart reached third after hitting a single earlier in the inning. However, Arent struck out Nicole Celi to end the game, giving the Falcons the win.
