Jabs Strikes Out 11 In Game One, Ovalles Does It All In Game Two As Softball Sweeps Regis

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Annabelle Jabs (East Hartland, Conn.) pitched a complete game shutout in game one, and Amelia Ovalles (Lawrence, Mass.) had a standout game in the circle and at the plate in game two as the Albertus Magnus College softball team swept Regis College, 5-0 and 9-4 on Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader.

Jabs struck out a career-high 11 batters in the game one win, allowing just two hits. She retired the final 14 batters of the game, and struck out the side twice in the game one win. Amelia Boulli (Torrington, Conn.) went 2-for-3 in the first game with two RBI and also had two more hits in game two with two runs.  Reilly Austin (Cumberland, R.I.) went 1-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI in game one.

Ovalles earned her first career win in game two, striking out seven batters in four innings of work while also going 3-for-3 with two doubles and four RBI at the plate. She also had an RBI double in game one.

Gabby Rubino (Southington, Conn.) was 2-for-2 with a home run and a double, with two RBI in the second game.

 HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After Jabs struck out two batter in the first inning, the offense immediately gave her help in the bottom of the inning, plating four runs. After the Falcons loaded the bases, back-to-back fielder's choices by Reilly and Karla Carangelo (Cheshire, Conn.) made it a 2-0 game. Boulli then followed with a two-run single to put Albertuts ahead, 4-0.
  • Jabs kept the Pride bats silent, striking out the side in the top of the third. Albertus added a run in the bottom of the third on a double from Ovalles that bounced off the second base bag, allowing Austin - who also doubled - to score.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Ovalles struck out two batters in the top of the first as she retired the side in order. In the bottom of the inning, the Falcons once again scored four runs to open up a 4-0 lead. With the bases loaded with one out, Carangelo drove in a one on a fielder's choice. Two batters later, Ovalles helped her own cause with a two-run single to right field. The Falcons added one more run on an error by the Pride.
  • After a scoreless second, the Falcons scored three more in the bottom of the third as Ovalles and Rubino each had an RBI double. Ovalles then added her second RBI double of the game in the bottom of the fourth as Albertus took an 8-0 lead.
  • Regis got three runs back in the top of the third, including an RBI double by Lynsey Kay.
  • On the first pitch in the bottom of the fifth, Rubino launched a solo home run over the left centerfield fence to put Albertus up, 9-3. Regis added one more run in the top of the seventh.
