HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After Jabs and counterpart Pipe Kinney of Simmons each kept the offense off the board in the first inning, the Falcons put up two runs in the top of the second to take a 2-0 lead. With two outs, the Falcons had runners on first and second as Carangelo and Izzy Barreiro (Brookfield, Conn.) each walked. Carrano then lofted a ball to shallow right field that dropped past the diving effort of Abilgail Carvalho that plated two runs.
  • In the top of the third, Isabelle Smith (Meriden, Conn.) singled and Amelia Boulli (Torrington, Conn.) walked and were on second and third when Carangelo singled to centerfield which which scored Smith. A bobble in the outfield then allowed Boulli to score, making it a 4-0 game.
  • Simmons got two runs back in the bottom of the inning as Carvalho and Zoe Soule each had RBI singles. Jabs struck out the final two batters of the inning, leaving runners on second and third.
  • Albertus added one more run in the top of the sixth as Solow singled to center, which scored Kaitlyn Scribner (Quaker Hill, Conn.). Scribner came in as a pinch runner, replacing Barreiro, who doubled with one out in the inning.
  • Jabs allowed just three baserunners over the final four innings.
