NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College softball team embarks on their first ever trip to the NCAA Tournament as they head to Worcester Polytechnic Institute for the regional round.
Joining the Falcons in the regional are WPI, UMass-Dartmouth and Stockton University (N.J.)
The Falcons won their second Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) championship in program history, and clinched their first berth ever in the NCAA Tournament after defeating Simmons University, 10-1 in the series-clinching game.
The tournament begins Thursday with the Falcons taking on WPI at 11 a.m. followed by UMass-Dartmouth vs. Stockton at 1:30 p.m. The regional will follow a double elimination format.

Albertus, the top seed in the GNAC South advanced to the championship series after going 4-1 in Pod B of the conference tournament and advancing to the best-of-three championship series against Simmons University.
In game one, Annabelle Jabs (East Hartland, Conn.) pitched a seven inning complete game, giving up just two earned runs and striking out six in a 5-2 win for the Falcons. Gianna Carrano (West Haven, Conn.) went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI to pace the Falcons offense. Karla Carangelo (Cheshire, Conn.) was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Gina Solow was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Game two saw the Falcons' offense being held to just two hits against Piper Kinney of Simmons as the Sharks took game two, 1-0.
In the deciding game three, the Falcons scored three runs in the first off of starter Trinity Hyde which included a two-run double by Amelia Boulli (Torrington, Conn.). Carangelo earned the win in the game, throwing five innings and giving up just one earned and striking out three. Jabs pitched the final inning, striking out two.
The Falcons put the game away in the top of the sixth inning as Reilly Austin (Cumberland, R.I.) had an RBI single, followed by a two-run single by Amelia Ovalles (Lawrence, Mass.) and an RBI double by Izzy Barreiro (Brookfield, Conn.).
Jabs was named the GNAC Tournament MVP and joined Carangel, Boulli and Mikaela Schwippert (Whippany, N.J.) on the All-Tournament Team.

The Engineers, ranked 12th in the nation and the top team in Region I, defeated No. 25 MIT in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) championship game, 10-3 on Sunday. The Engineers made it to the winner-take-all game after a walk-off single by Sandy Fairbairn in the bottom of the tenth inning on Saturday in a 7-6 win over MIT.
In the championship-clinching win, the Engineers scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth and three more in the bottom of the sixth to secure the win. Fairbairn was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Liz Jordan went 2-for-2 with a double and a run and Emma Nagy went 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and two RBI in the game. Naomi Boldebuck pitched a complete game, striking out two.

The Corsairs won their second Little East Conference Championship after an 8-3 win over Rhode Island College in a winner-take-all game on Sunday.
The Corsairs scored two runs in each of the first four innings of the game to secure the win.
Olivia Ali led the way for the Corsairs, going 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Bre Fontes and Sydney Menz were each 1-for-2 with two RBI. Chloe Edwards was 2-for-3 with a double and a run.
Raelynn Perregaux was the tournament's Most Outstanding Player after batting .450 in the tournament with a double and four runs scored.

Stockton University makes their first appearance in program history after receiving an at-large bid out of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). Stockton was the NJAC regular season champion and currently hold the 17th ranking in the NCAA Power Index (NPI) and 18th in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Poll.
The team's 30 wins were the most since 2016.
