Martin Scores Twice As Women's Ice Hockey Remains Undefeated After Win Over Framingham State

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Molly Martin (Buffalo, N.Y.) scored two goals as the Albertus Magnus College women's ice hockey team ran its undefeated start to the season to seven games in a 6-4 win over Framingham State on Friday in non-conference action at Ralph Walker Ice Rink.

Martin also added an assist for the Falcons who also got goals from Gabriella Dellacroce (Woodbridge, Conn.), Tori Walsh (Marystown, Newfoundland), Kalyn Reynolds (Newington, Conn.) and Blayne Dussold (Union, Mo.). For Dussold, it was her first career goal.

Christmas Johnson (Winnipeg, Manitoba) stopped 20 shots on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Falcons got off to a hot start, scoring three goals over the first 12:07 of the first period. The first came from Martin at the 4:18 mark as she took the puck between the faceoff circles, split two defenders and scored her seventh goal of the season to put Albertus up, 1-0.
  • Reynolds added a power-play goal as she deflected a shot from Dellacroce past FSU goaltender, Lila Chamoun to make it a 2-0 game at the 7:33 mark.
  • Dellacroce added the final goal for the Falcons in the first period as she ripped a one-timer just in front of the blueline off a pass from Martin to make it 3-0.
  • The Rams added a goal with less than two minutes left in the period as Ruby Boucher scored a power-play goal on a 5-on-3 situation.
  • Framingham State battled back to tie the game in the second period as Sarah Lewis took a pass at the blue line and beat the Albertus defense to the net as she scored past Johnson to make it a 3-2 game at the 4:50 mark. Petra Cernicek tied the game at 12:29 as she snapped a shot from the right faceoff circle.
  • The tie didn't last long as Alana Laser (San Jose, Calif.) stole the puck behind the net in the offensive zone and fed a centering pass to Dussold who put home the goal to make it a 4-3 game at 13:59.
  • Albertus put the game away in the later stages of the third period as Martin scored her second goal of the game as she took the puck from the blue line after a pass from Reynolds, beat two defenders  with a toe drag along the boards and took a wrist shot past Chamoun at the 14:32 mark.
  • Just over two minutes later, Walsh scored her eighth goal of the season as a shot from Maddy Gootjes (Quispamsis, New Brunswick) went wide and off the end boards back to Walsh who was in front of the net and stuffed the puck home for the 6-3 lead.
  • The Rams added one more goal from Sophie Brien with under two minutes remaining.
