Women's Lacrosse Gets A Hat Trick From Signor, Retasket In Win Over Old Westbury

New Haven, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse team took home the win over the Panthers of Old Westbury on Thursday afternoon from Celentano Field, 14-4. Alexys Signor (North Haven, Conn.) and Briony Retasket (Beaverton, Ore.) each netted a hat trick for the Falcons. 

The Falcons also had three other players with two goals on the day, including Sage Sonsini (Milford, Conn.), Moira O'Brien (Wilbraham, Mass.), and Julianna Montano (Wallingford, Conn.). 

Victoria McDermott (Northford, Conn.) got the start in goal, making five saves. 

The win was the second straight for the Falcons.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The Falcons went up 3-0 within the first eight minutes of the game as Signor netted her hat trick. O'Brien was credited with an assist on the second goal. 
  • The Falcons picked up another five goals in the second quarter, including two free position goals. Retasket and Montano had two goals each during the stretch. 
  • The Panthers got on the board to close out the first half as Caitlyn Subero sent the ball by McDermott with under a minute to go. 
  • The Falcons kept the scoring going as O'Brien opened up the second half with her first goal of the season, after taking a quick pass from Delaney Schlechtweg (Goshen, N.Y.). 
  • The Panthers responded as Ciana Kunen helped herself for the score. 
  • O'Brien and Schlechtweg connected once again for the next Albertus score, this time it was Schlechtweg who took a pass from O'Brien, putting Albertus ahead, 10-2.
  • O'Brien added another goal on a free-position shot, and then Sonsini maneuvered her way through the Panthers' defense for the next score. 
  • Kunen added one more goal for Old Westbury just before the third quarter ended, but the Falcons still led, 12-3.
  • Jamily Carter (New Britain, Conn.) got the scoring started in the fourth as she ran the distance and put one away past Jara Gonzalez. 
  • Ashley Maniscalco later scored on a free-position shot for the Panthers, and then Retasket netted the final goal of the game to complete her hat trick and the Albertus victory.

Both Signor and Retasket scored their first career hat tricks.

This is the first time the Falcons have won back-to-back games since 2023.
