MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Mia Cortes (Tlajomulco, Mexico) of the Albertus Magnus College women's swimming team set two program records at the Jayden Szkirka Memorial Championships at Wesleyan University on Saturday.
As a team, the Falcons finished with 82 points on the women's side, which put them in seventh place.
Cortes broke the 1650-yard freestyle record with a time of 19:50.30, and finished seventh in the event. She bested the previous program record of 21:32.11 set by Sophie Olander. In the 200 yard individual medley, she finished in 19th place and set a new mark of 2:26.51, beating the old record of 2:27.42 held by Maria Estrada.
Cortes also finished in ninth place in the 400 yard individual medley.
Alyssa DeFeo (Wallingford, Conn.) set three personal bests wiith a time of 1:11.66 in the 100-yard freestyle, a time of 33.77 in the 50-yard freestyle and 1:34.47 and a time of 1:34.47 in the 100-yard breaststroke.
On the men's side, Alexander Wynn (Cheshire, Conn.) set six personal bests, including a time of 21:33.25 in the 1650-yard freestyle, which placed him 11th.
