WESTON, Mass. - The Albertus Magnus College women's tennis team qualified for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tournament after defeating Regis College (Mass.), 5-4 for its first win of the season on Tuesday afternoon.
It is the first time the team has qualified for the GNAC tournament since the 2017 season. The Falcons, seeded fourth, will take on top-seed Colby-Sawyer on October 12.
The Falcons picked up its first point in doubles as Shawna Glasgow (Bridgeport, Conn.) and Julianna Sigut (Litchfield, Conn.) won an 8-0 match in no. 2 over Alex Nichols-Millen and Shalom Njau. Glasgow and Sigut then won their singles matches as Sigut won 6-1, 6-0 over Njau in no. 3. Glasgow won her match, 6-1, 6-1 in no. 6 singles over Shyann Teixeira Kellam.
JuJu Oliver (New Britain, Conn.) won her no. 1 singles match, 6-4, 6-2 and Osiana Brown (New Haven, Conn.) won, 6-2, 6-3 over Akshita Duvvuri. Oliver and Brown have now won their last two singles matches.
The win also marked the first win for Adam Raffone as the Albertus women's tennis head coach.
Albertus improved its record to 1-8 on the season and 1-3 in the GNAC. Regis fell to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in the GNAC.
Up next, the Falcons will take on Western Connecticut State University on October 10 at 3:30 p.m. on the road.
