Women's Volleyball Weekly Preview: Mount Ida, Suffolk & Emmanuel

Last Week: The Albertus Magnus College women's volleyball team went 3-1 in non-conference action last week, scoring a pair of victories against Medgar Evers and a shutout triumph versus Purchase at home. Albertus Magnus enters the sixth week of the season with a 5-10 overall record and an 0-2 mark in conference play. In their three victories, the Falcons averaged more than 19 aces per match. Freshman Ashley David continued her strong play for Albertus Magnus with 29 kills and 31 digs over the four matches. All five of the team's wins have come in non-conference play this fall.

This Week: The Falcons have a trio of Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contests this week away from home. AMC opens up with a midweek road showdown at Mount Ida before traveling back to the Bay State for a tri-match with Suffolk and Emmanuel.

Last Fall Versus the Mustangs: Mount Ida handed Albertus Magnus a 3-0 loss at home. The Mustangs earned the road win by a score of 25-10, 25-14 and 25-13. As a team, AMC committed 10 serving errors, 15 receiving errors and 16 attack errors in the setback.

Last Year Against the Rams: Suffolk blanked Albertus Magnus, 3-0, at home last October. The Falcons registered 18 kills, 31 digs and a pair of service aces in a 25-6, 25-12 and 25-18 setback in Boston. Ana Gomez led the charge with five kills for AMC, while Amber Cohens added three of her own.

Last Year Against the Saints: Emmanuel took down Albertus Magnus, 3-0, in a neutral site clash in 2015. The Saints won by a score of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-18. The Falcons had 21 kills and 20 attack errors. Defensively, AMC amassed 54 digs led by Marielis Muriel with 14.

- David averaged 2.23 kills per set and 2.38 digs per set in a 3-1 week for the Falcons. She totaled 29 kills, 17 service aces and 31 digs for 46 total points for Albertus Magnus. David had five or more service aces in all three of the team's wins last week. Her best performance came in a 3-0 victory against Purchase as she averaged 3.67 kills per set (11 total), to go along with a .556 attack percentage, 11 kills and 2.00 service aces per set (6 total).
- David has 100 kills this fall and Gomez is right behind her with 97 this year. Muriel has been the leader in the middle for Albertus Magnus, recording a team-best 254 assists. Cohens has accounted for the most points on the team with 129.0 thanks to 11 total blocks, 33 service aces and 86 kills. Defensively, freshman Nashalie Bayona had a team-high 133 digs. Three players on the team have more than 100 digs this fall.
- The team has four returners and five newcomers this season.
- Seven of the team's first eight games will take place outside of New Haven. Last year, the squad picked up four wins away from home. All five of the team's wins have come in non-conference action this autumn.
