HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was all Albertus in the first set scoring the first three points. The Falcons extended their lead to 17-8 behind two kills by both Nyanna Richards (Bridgeport, Conn.) and Cseszko. The Colonels never got closer than eight points the rest of the way as Cseszko added two aces en route to closing out the set and taking a 1-0 lead in the match.
- Curry jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second set, but the Falcons rallied to take a 7-6 lead after a kill from Negron. The Colonels once again took a three-point lead at 11-8, but the Falcons followed with a 7-2 run to take a 15-13 lead behind kills by Yarieshka Sierra (Hartford, Conn.) and Paula Matheus (Boyaca, Colombia), Emma Fallon (Harwinton, Conn.) and Cseszko. Albertus took one more lead at 16-15, but Curry finished on a 10-2 run to tie the match, 1-1. Matheus and Gordon each had an ace in the set.
- A kill from Sierra and an ace from Gordon gave Albertus a 2-0 lead early in the third set, but the Colonels followed with a 10-2 run behind two kills from Morgan Kramer. Albertus crept back within four points multiple times, but were unable to get any closer as the Colonels were able to hold them off. Sierra had two kills in the set, while Gordon had five assists. Four different Falcons had an ace in the set.
- The fourth set saw 10 ties and three lead changes in a tightly-contested frame. Albertus took an 8-4 lead early on as Negron had two kills and Alyna Ovalles (Oakdale, Conn.) had two aces. Meghan Abbott had two straight kills to put Curry ahead 11-10. Three straight kills from the Falcons, including two from Majo Pelaez (Armenia, Colombia) put the Falcons ahead 18-15, but two more kills from Abbott fueled a 5-0 run that gave Curry a 20-18 lead. Down to match point, the Falcons took advantage of two Curry errors to tie the set at 24-24, but two straight kills, the last from Abbott closed out the match for Curry.
