NEWTON, Mass. - The Albertus Magnus College volleyball team was swept 3-0 in each of its Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matches against Lasell University and Rivier University on Saturday afternoon, snapping the team's five-game winning streak.
Jazmine Taboas Negron (San Juan, Puerto Rico) had a team-high 12 kills against Rivier, while Shalese Gordon (Bridgeport, Conn.) had 11 assists and three aces. Majo Pelaez (Armenia, Colombia) had a combined 11 kills through the two matches. Paula Matheus (Boyaca, Colombia) had five blocks between the two matches.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons took an early 6-3 lead in the first set as Pelaez, Sophie Cseszko (Grapevine, TX) and Emma Fallon (Harwinton, Conn.) each had a kill. However, the Lasers rattled off the next five points to take an 8-6 lead. With Lasell leading 11-9 after a kill from Pelaez of Albertus, the Lasers scored the next eight points, taking a commanding 19-9 lead as Morgan Bogli had seven aces during the run. Fallon and Pelaez each had one more kill in the set, but the Falcons never threatened as Lasell took a 1-0 lead in the match.
- Albertus took a 5-3 lead in the second set, including two kills from Nyanna Richards (Bridgeport, Conn.), but a 9-3 run by the Lasers gave them a 12-8 lead. The Falcons got to within two points on two different occassions, but Lasell was able to pull away, as the Lasers scored on three of the final four points of the set.
- The third set was all Lasell, as it took an 8-1 lead before Albertus took a timeout. The Lasers led by as much as 16 points at 24-8, and the Falcons never threatened during the set.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Albertus took a 4-1 lead in the first set as Pelaez had two aces early on. Rivier Responded with six straight points, including an ace by Sam Driend and a kill by Ali Rivera. After falling behind 12-9, Albertus scored three straight to tie the set, which included a kill by Pelaez and an ace by Gordon. Rivier scored the next four points, and never let Albertus get any closer than three points the rest of the set as the Raiders took a 1-0 match lead. Negron had three kills in the first set for Albertus
- In the second set, Albertus took a 20-15 lead late in the set as Negron had four kills and Cseszko had two during the first 35 points of the set. However, the Raiders scored the next nine points, including two kills from Rivera as they took a 24-20 lead. Negron added one more kill, the Raiders would take the set on the next point to take a 2-0 match lead.
- The Falcons scored the first six points of the third set and led by as much as seven points in the second set as they took command early. Gordon had two aces during the opening run and Pelaez had two kills. Later in the set, two kills by Fallon and one from Negron put Albertus ahead 18-14, but the Raiders scored six traight, taking a 20-18 lead as Callie Nanos had three kills furing the run. Cseszko tied the set at 21-21 after an ace. The Raiders scored the next two points and held on to take the match in the third set.
