The #7 Albertus Magnus men's basketball team will take on Springfield College TONIGHT, Friday, March 6, in a 5:30 p.m. contest in the 2015 Division III men's basketball NCAA Tournament First Round. The match-up will take place at Dickinson College, home of the 10th-ranked Dickinson Red Devils.
The Falcons (27-1) are making their fourth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance and the fifth in the last six years. Last season they battled their way into the program's first-ever appearance in the "Sweet 16" before a loss to Williams at Mary Washington College.
Springfield, one of 19 teams that earned at-large bids, is 19-8 on the year. Sean Martin (Rindge, N.H.) leads Springfield as he was selected to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Basketball All-Conference First Team. This marks the second straight season that Martin earned all-league honors as he was a second-team selection last year.
Albertus is led by Tavon Sledge (Spring Valley, N.Y.) with 20.6 points per game and Victor Ljuljdjuraj (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) with 19 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. Ljuljdjuraj was named the 2015 GNAC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, while making the All-Conference First Team. Sledge was also a First Team memeber.
Dickinson and Regis (Mass.) will play in a 7:30 p.m. match-up on Friday night following the Falcons/Pride match-up.
The Red Devils captured their second Centennial Conference Championship in three years on Saturday, earning the conference's automatic bid while improving to 22-5 on the season. The host Regis College (Mass.) tonight in a 7:30 p.m. contest.
The winners of tonight's two first round match-ups will face off on Saturday night, March 7, in a 7:00 p.m. meeting. The winner of that contest will head to the NCAA "Sweet 16" next weekend.
