Daniels Scores 31 Points As Men's Basketball Wins Fourth Straight In Victory Over Purchase

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Fueled by a game-high 31 points by Ta'zhon Daniels (New Haven, Conn.), the Albertus Magnus College men's basketball team won its fourth straight game, a 92-65 victory SUNY Purchase on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game in The Nest.

Daniels shot 12-for-23 from the field to go with three rebounds and four steals. Jayquan Kirkland (Stratford, Conn.) scored 16 points and made three three-pointers and Ray Ford, Jr. (Jersey City, N.H.) scored 15 points with four rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Avery Hinnant (Naugatuck, Conn.) scored nine points with a game-high 10 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Albertus never trailed in the game, going on a 23-4 run to open the game as Daniels scored eight points during the stretch while Ford, Jr., Kirkland and Isaiah Earl each scored five. 
  • The Falcons allowed just one field goal during the run and didn't allow a second field goal until the 11:19 mark of the first half after a three from Purchase's Sean Holzman.
  • Purchase closed the Albertus lead to 34-22 with 3:49 left, but Daniels scored the final six points for the Falcons in the half as they took a 40-25 lead into halftime. Daniels had 16 points in the first half, while Kirkland scored 11.
  • The Panthers scored the first basket of the second half, but the Falcons were able to push their lead to 56-35 at the 14:44 mark as Hinnant scored seven points early on. Kirkland added a three-pointer during the run.
  • Purchase once again knocked the Albertus lead to 12 points after a layup from Desmond Ward, but a jumper from Daniels, followed by a steal on the defensive end along with another layup from Daniels, the Falcons made it a 66-50 game. Later on in the half Daniels made a jumper while getting fouled. He made the free throw, effectively putting Purchase away as the Falcons took an 81-58 lead with 4:21 left. 
  • Albertus allowed just two made field goals from Purchase over the final six minutes.

  • It was the fifth career 30-plus point game for Daniels in his career. His 1,051 points puts him 19th all-time in program history in scoring.
  • The Falcons tied a season-high in steals with 16.
  • Albertus is now 5-0 all-time against Purchase.
  • Over his last three games, Kirkland is shooting 68.4 percent (13-for-19) from three.
