Daniels Scores 44 Points As Men's Basketball Tops Baruch For Sixth Straight Win

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Ta'zhon Daniels (New Haven, Conn.) scored a career-high 44 points as the Albertus Magnus College men's basketball team won its sixth straight game, defeating Baruch College, 98-84 on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game.

Daniels shot 16-for-22 from the field, including 5-for-6 from three while also grabbing three rebounds with two assists and six steals.

Isaiah Earl (Hamden, Conn.) scored 23 points on 9-for-12 shooting with four rebounds. Ray Ford, Jr. (Jersey City, N.J.) scored 18 points with six rebounds and five assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Albertus fell behind 8-2 just over two minutes into the game, but scored the next 10 points, starting with a tip-in from Avery Hinnant (Naugatuck, Conn.) while Daniels scored four points during the run to make it a 12-8 game with 14:31 left. 
  • With the Falcons trailing 15-14, Daniels buried a jumper, then stole a pass on the defensive end, leading to a dunk by Rodrick Pearson (Hartford, Conn.) to give Albertus an 18-15 lead. After a timeout by Baruch, the Falcons forced another turnover, leading to a basket by Ford, Jr. Baruch's Jack Gordon and Ford, Jr. then traded three-pointers as Albertus took a 23-18 lead with 11:15 left in the first half.
  • Baruch tied the game, 23-23 after a layup from Daniel Haire. The Falcons responded with a three from Ford, Jr. and then a steal from Tahijj Hunter (Mount Laurel, N.J.) led to another layup from Daniels to put the Falcons up five points. Moments later, Ford, Jr. stole the ball in the passing lane leading to a dunk, and after a basket from Baruch, Daniels buried a three to give Albertus the 33-25 lead. Earl also added a steal and a dunk later in the half.
  • Daniels went on a 9-0 run on his own, starting with a jumper and then a four-point play after being fouled on a made three. On the ensuing possession for Baruch, Daniels stole the ball and hit another three to put the Falcons ahead 44-28 with 4:24 left. With under two minutes left, Daniels and Jayquan Kirkland (Stratford, Conn.) each hit a three as Albertus took a 54-37 lead into halftime.
  • Baruch scored the first seven points of the second half, including a three by Luke Reese to cut the Albertus lead to 54-44. Earl and Daniels each hit a three a couple of minute later and Albertus put its lead back up to 63-49. 
  • Over a span of 3:25 during the second half, the Falcons went on a 17-4 run on 8-for-9 shooting that included seven points from Earl - with two dunks - and six points from Daniels as Albertus took an 80-56 lead with 12:30 left in the second half. The Falcons forced five turnovers during the run.
  • Baruch closed the deficit to 12 points at 94-82 with 2:12 left, but two free throws from Daniels and another dunk by Earl sealed the win for the Falcons.
