New Haven, CT - The Albertus Magnus College Men's Soccer team is honoring their three seniors as well as the memory of former goal keeper Nick Cohen who passed away in a tragic accident following his freshman season during the regular season home finale against Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent St. Joseph's College Maine Saturday at 1:00 pm.
"We are proud to honor these three seniors as well as the memory of Nick Cohen. I am proud of all of our seniors as they have contributed to the tremendous growth of the Men's Soccer team over the last four seasons. It has been a pleasure to have coached all four of these men," stated Head Men's Soccer Coach Jim Bernardo.
Dave Dziezynski is a 5th year senior from Wilby High School in Waterbury, CT. Dave has been a key reserve off the bench both on defense and in the midfield over his four year career. He has provided leadership and depth to a young Falcons team this year. In his four year career he has been one of the most improved players in the program. Dave has played in 19 games over his injury plagued career and his commitment to the Albertus Magnus College Men’s Soccer program will be missed. Dave will be graduating with a degree in Communications in May.
Matt Siperas is a four year player from North Haven, CT, who has played mainly as a forward and outside midfielder throughout his career. Matt has been a key reserve for the Falcons over his four year career and his work ethic is going to be difficult to replace. Matt’s ability to consistently be one of our hardest workers has led him to be a great role model for the younger players on the team. Matt’s value to our program cannot be measured in goals and assists, but his positive attitude, work rate, and winning mentality have been key to our team’s success. Matt has played in 49 games accumulating four goals and thress assists over his career and he will be missed. Matt will be graduating with a degree in Business Management in May.
Pete Hamasian is four year player from Hamden, CT, who has been a co captain of the Falcons for the last two seasons. Pete has been our starting right back for the last three seasons and has improved drastically over his four year career. His leadership and ability to make plays in big games made him a valuable member of the Falcons. He has been the leader of a very strong and young Falcons defensive group and is the emotional leader of the program. Pete’s willingness to do whatever it takes for the team will be sorely missed. Pete has played in 68 games in his career with 3 career assists and will be graduating with a degree in Business Management in May.
Finally the Albertus Magnus College Men’s Soccer Program is proud to honor the memory of would be senior goalkeeper Nick Cohen of East Hartford, CT. Nick was an all state goalkeeper in high school and was one of the Falcon's goalkeepers his freshmen year at Albertus. Nick was a big part of the Albertus Magnus College Soccer program with his ability to make saves, but more importantly with his ability to make everyone laugh and keep the team loose. “Nick the Goalie” will always be a part of the Albertus Magnus College Men’s Soccer Program as his memory is with us everyday.
