Albertus Magnus men's soccer standouts Jamal Howard (West Haven, Conn.) and Lindsley Barrett (Shelton, Conn.) have been selected as recipients of two prestigious Great Northeast Athletic Conference yearly honors, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Howard has been chosen as the 2011 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Player of the Year, while Barrett earns Rookie of the Year honors.
Howard led the Falcons as well as the conference this year in goals scored and points. With 21 goals and four assists, the senior has posted 46 points for the Falcons in 2011. During 2011 play, Howard set Albertus Magnus men's soccer records in career goals and points, while breaking the program's single-season record of goals scored.
The West Haven, Conn. native was named the GNAC Player of the Week twice throughout the season and registered a team-best six game-winning goals and two hat tricks.
In the 2011 regular season, Barrett started in all 17 games, while scoring eight goals for 16 points. He also contributed with four game-winning goals. The freshman was named the GNAC Player of the Week on Sept. 12 and Rookie of the Week on Oct. 4.
Both Falcons have led their team to a successful year as Albertus went 10-0 in GNAC play during the regular season. As of Nov. 7, Albertus is 15-2-1 on the year, which ties the men's soccer program record in single-season wins, which was set a year ago.
Albertus will host its first-ever ECAC Tournament game on Wednesday, Nov. 9 as the second-seeded Falcons will face No. 7 Endicott College (Beverly, Mass.) at 1:30 p.m. on Celentano Field.
