Albertus Magnus College men's soccer Head Coach Jim Bernardo '98 earned his 100th career victory this past Wednesday afternoon in a 3-0 win over host Mitchell College.
Bernardo '98 is entering his 10th season in 2014 as the head men's soccer coach at Albertus Magnus College.
In the last five seasons, Bernardo has led his teams to a combined mark of 62-30-8 and five Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) postseason appearances including a GNAC title and NCAA appearance in 2012. The Falcons are 7-1-2, 1-1-1 GNAC this season.
After graduating from Albertus Magnus in 1998 with a degree in Business Administration and a concentration in Accounting, Bernardo was hired as an assistant coach with the Falcons and served in that role until the end of the 2004 season. In the summer of 2005, he became just the second head coach in program history.
In his first four seasons at the helm of the program, Bernardo's teams earned postseason berths every year and were selected to the ECAC Tournament in both 2005 and 2002. Since then, the Falcons have made ECAC Tournament appearances in both 2010 and 2011.
As a student-athlete, Bernardo was a four-year starting goalkeeper for Hall of Fame head coach George Bedocs from 1994-97 and was a captain of the 1997 team. He earned GNAC All-Conference Second Team honors in 1997 and All-Tournament honors in 1996 and was the starting goalkeeper on the 1996 GNAC Championship team, which was inducted into the Albertus Magnus Hall of Fame in 2009. Bernardo held nearly every men's soccer career goalkeeping record until recent graduate Donato Piroscafo (Naugatuck, Conn.) surpassed him following a stellar four-year career.
