The fourth-seeded Albertus Magnus men's soccer team fell to fifth-seeded Mount Ida College 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament on Saturday afternoon in New Haven.
Rivas-Vasquez scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 28th minute as he drilled a shot from just outside of the 18-yard box, beating Albertus keeper Griffin Volta (Orange, Conn.).
Volta made two saves in the contest, while Mount Ida's Mat Pils tallied two as well. Albertus outshot the Mustangs 11-8 as they held a 7-3 shot advantage in the second half.
Albertus is now 7-4-2 all-time against Mount Ida, while today's loss marked the first against the Mustangs since 2009. Today's quarterfinal loss marks the first for the Falcons since that 2009 season when the Falcons lost to fifth-seeded Norwich University in GNAC Tournament action.
The Falcons are now 13-15-4 all-time in GNAC Tournament play dating back to the 1996 season.
The Mustangs will now face top-seeded Johnson & Wales (R.I.) on Wednesday, Nov. 5 in Providence.
