Five Falcons Named to GNAC All-Conference Team

2014 GNAC All-Conference Teams

Five members of the Albertus Magnus men's soccer team have earned 2014 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Conference honors as announced by the league office on Monday.  Senior Lindsley Barrett (Shelton, Conn.) led the way for the second-straight year as he was the program's lone All-Conference First Team selection.

Alexis Garcia (West Haven, Conn.) was one of three Falcons named to the Second Team as he joined Alex Zapata (Hamden, Conn.) and Austin Tomin (Hamden, Conn.) on that squad.  Senior Riker Mitchell (Naugatuck, Conn.) was tagged as a Third Team member.

This is the fourth-straight season in which Barrett has earned All-Conference honors and the second-straight year in which he earned First Team accolades.  Barrett is now just one of five all-time Albertus Magnus men's soccer players to earn GNAC All-Conference honors all four years of his career.

The exclusive list includes Michael Abbey, who was just recently inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2014, Victor Crespo (a 2008 Hall of Fame member with the 1996 men's soccer team), Donato Piroscafo, and Nick Hamasian.  Michael Abbey still remains the only player in men's soccer program history to earn GNAC All-Conference First Team honors all four years of his career.

Since being named Rookie of the Year in 2011, Barrett has been named to the First Team twice as well as the Second Team twice.  Barrett has tallied 20 points on six goals and eight assists so far this season as his 20-point effort is second-best on the team.

Garcia, who was named to the 2013 GNAC Rookie of the Year, was tagged as a Second Team member for the second-straight year. Garcia currently has 31 points, a team-best, on 13 goals and five assists.  He has also tallied five game-winning goals.

Zapata was named the 2012 GNAC Rookie of the Year as a freshman with the Falcons.  He was also a Second Team member that year.  This season's accolade marks the second year he has been named to the Second Team.  Zapata has dished out a team-high 10 assists this season to go along with four goals for 18 points.

Tomin, who earned his first All-Conference Team recognition this season, has played and started in all 19 games this season for the Falcons thus far.  Tomin has also scored three goals for six points on the year.

Riker Mitchell, who is earning conference accolades for the second-straight year – named to the 2013 Second Team – has been tagged as a Third Team member for his senior-year campaign as he started in all 19 games for the Falcons this season.  Mitchell and Tomin helped the Falcons to six shutouts this season.

Dating back to the 1996 season, the Falcons have had 38 All-Conference First Team selections, 32 Second Team selections, and nine Third Team picks.
