Winthrop, Mass. – Albertus Magnus men's soccer sophomore Griffin Volta (Orange, Conn.) has been tabbed as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Goalkeeper of the Week as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
The second-year starter went 1-1-0 between the pipes last week, as the Falcons dropped their regular season finale against MCLA before netting a 2-1 come-from-behind at Saint Joseph's in the GNAC Quarterfinals. In two games, Volta made 11 saves and posted a 1.50 goals-against average. In Sunday's thrilling victory, he turned aside six of the seven shots he faced to earn his seventh win of the autumn.
Volta becomes the first Falcon to earn weekly accolades this fall. It also marked the second time in his young career that he has been named the GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week, earning the distinction last season on September 30.
Albertus Magnus returns to action on Wednesday, November 4, traveling to face Mount Ida in the GNAC Semifinals at 3:30 pm. Earlier this season, the Mustangs topped the Falcons, 2-1, in Massachusetts. AMC will look to avenge the early-season setback and advance to the GNAC Championship for the first time since 2012.
