Men's Tennis Freshman Steven Woodfield Named GNAC Rookie of the Week

Winthrop, Mass. – Albertus Magnus College freshman men's tennis player Steven Woodfield (Naugatuck, Conn.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon as announced by the league office.

Woodfield becomes the first Falcon to earn weekly distinction from the conference this spring and he's the first Albertus Magnus player to be recognized by the league since teammate Pete Zacharias (North Haven, Conn.) was tabbed as the GNAC Player of the Week during March of last season.

In his first week of collegiate action, Woodfield went 2-0 in both singles and doubles action. At No. 5 singles, he won both of his matches in straight sets. He surrendered just three points against St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) and won 6-4, 6-1 versus CCNY. In doubles play, he earned a pair of 8-1 wins at No. 3 with partner Ahmed Abdulateef (Hamden, Conn.).

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Tuesday, March 29, with a road non-conference clash against Nichols that gets underway at 3:30 pm.
