Senior Men's Volleyball Player Ben Spilka Named to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team

Winthrop, Mass. – Albertus Magnus College senior men's volleyball player Ben Spilka (Redding, Conn.) has been named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Sportsmanship Team as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

Spilka and the Falcons ended the 2016 season with a 5-16 overall record and finished eighth in the GNAC with an 0-14 mark in league matches. In his second season at the helm of the program, Head Coach Kelvin Jones guided Albertus Magnus to non-conference victories against Brooklyn College, CCNY, York College and two versus Medgar Evers.

Spilka, an outside hitter, appeared in 20 matches for the Falcons and saw action in 65 sets. During his final season on the team, Spilka registered 107 kills, 117 digs, 21 assists and accounted for 118.5 points. All of those marks were new career highs for him. Ben is a member of both The Studen Alumni Association and Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Spilka is the son of Stacey and Matthew Spilka and he is double majoring in accounting and finance.

Founded in 1995, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) is an NCAA Division III association made up of 12 member institutions, 12 associate member institutions, and over 3,000 student-athletes across the New England region. Each year, the GNAC sponsors and administers 17 championships, while balancing academic integrity, athletic opportunities and community involvement.
