NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Diamond White (Hamden, Conn.) scored her 1,000th career point on Wednesday evening, but the Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team lost its season-opener, 73-65 to New Jersey City University (NJCU) in a non-conference game.
White became the 18th member of the women's basketball program to acheive the milestone, joining two current teammates who joined the club last season, Caitlyn Scott (White Plains, N.Y.) and Jakara Murray-Leach (Norwalk, Conn.).
White's acheived the feat at the 8:07 mark of the first quarter to give Albertus a 5-2 lead.
White led the Falcons with 22 points to go with three rebounds, three steals and three assists. Scott scored 17 points and Murray-Leach had 13.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- White scored the first seven points for the Falcons to start the game, giving them a 7-4 lead early on, but an 18-4 run over a 3:40 stretch put NJCU up, 22-9. Na'tori Postell hit four straight threes for NJCU to open up the lead. The Gothic Knights took a 29-14 lead at the end of the first ten minutes behind ghe seven points from White and five from Scott.
- NJCU led by as much as 21 in the second quarter, and led 48-29 at the half. Whtie had five points and Ava Johnson (North Haven, Conn.) and Sarah Evangelista (West Haven, Conn.) each had four during the quarter.
- Albertus began to chip away at its deficit in the third quarter as Murray-Leach opened up the second half with two straight baskets. The Gotchic Knights got back up 50-33 on an Autumn John tip-in, but an 8-2 run, fueled by four points each from Murray-Leach and White made it a 52-41 game. The Falcons trimmed the deficit to single digits at 59-50 ending the quarter on a three from Scott and a free throw by Johnson.
- Over the first 5:15 of the fourth quarter, the Falcons outscored NJCU, 13-7 with all the points coming from White, Scott and Murray-Leach. Albertus had a chance to tie, but a missed three and five straight points - including a three from Olivia Wooten - gave NJCU a 71-63 lead with 1:33 remaining. Murray-Leach had five points in the quarter, while White and Scott each had four.
