Women's Basketball Wins Fifth Straight Behind Scott's Near Triple Double In Rout Of Mitchell

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Caitlyn Scott (White Plains, N.Y.) had a near triple-double as the Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team won its fifth straight game, defeating Mitchell College, 95-63 on Wednesday evening in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game.

Scott finished with 28 points, a career-high 15 rebounds and eight assists. Diamond White (Hamden, Conn.) scored 19 points - including 5-for-8 from three  - with four rebounds and two assists. Jakara Murray-Leach (Norwalk, Conn.) had 16 points and nine rebounds and Amanda Zdru (Stratford, Conn.) shot 4-for-6 from three and scored 14 points with four rebounds and four assists.

The Falcons led wire-to-wire and never trailed in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Falcons raced out of the gates, jumping out to a 20-2 lead over the first 4:02 of the game after a barrage of three-pointers. Zdru and White each hit a three to open the game, 6-0. With the Falcons up 9-2, White hit her second three of the quarter and Scott followed with two of her own to put Albertus up, 18-2. Scott finished the run with a layup on the next Albertus possession as she finished with 11 points in the quarter. Albertus led 24-11 after the first quarter.
  • Mitchell kept chipping away at the Albertus lead to open the second quarter as Jordyn Streitmatter scored the first five points of the quarter followed by a layup from Jade Hypolite and a three from Kyrsten Lucas to make it a 24-21 game leading to a Falcons timeout with 7:06 on the clock. After the timeout, the Falcons retook control and finished the quarter on a 22-7 run. Murray-Leach led the charge with 12 points on 5-for-7 shooting in the quarter while grabbing three rebounds as Albertus took a 46-28 lead into halftime.
  • Sarah Evangelista (West Haven, Conn.) opened up the third quarter with a three and Murray-Leach made a layup inside the first minute as the Falcons took a 51-30 lead.
  • Mitchell closed the gap after a three from N'Tai Teague, but Scott answered with one of her own and followed that with a steal and a layup to give Albertus a 58-37 lead with 6:36 left. White scored five straight points, including a three, followed by another three from Scott to five Albertus its biggest lead at the time at 66-40.
  • Scott hit one more three in the quarter as part of her 13 points  in the frame as the Falcons were in control leading 74-46. Scott also grabbed six rebounds in the third. The Falcons went 5-for-9 from three in the quarter, including and White went 4-for-4 from the field for 10 points.
  • In the fourth quarter, the Falcons continued to increase their lead and led by as much as 37 points at 92-55. Zdru scored eight points in the quarter on 3-for-3 shooting as the Falcons never let Mitchell get back in the game the rest of the way.
