New Haven, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team fell to visiting Elms, 2-0, on Thursday afternoon in non-conference action at Celentano Field.
The Falcons (1-2) dropped their home opener for the first time since 2014, while Blazers (3-0) ran their winning streak to three games.
Albertus Magnus and Elms were scorelessfor the first 45 minutes of action. During the opening half, the Falcons had their best scoring opportunity of the day as senior midfielder Danielle Polvan (East Haven, Conn.) sent a cross into the box that Kerrigan Loughman (Trumbull, Conn.) fired on goal. Loughman's big was turned aside by freshman goalkeeper Rebecca Molin.
The stop by Molin was her only of the day as the Blazer backline kept the Falcons offense at bay all afternoon.
In the 53rd minute, Elms broke through as junior forward Brie Voight scored on a breakaway with a shot past AMC sophomore netminder Lexie Fenn (Oakville, Conn.). Junior midfielder Jackie Soucia sent Voight in with a through ball for her team-leading fifth marker of the autumn. The tally would prove to be all Elms needed as Molin recorded a shutout.
Less than four minutes later, the guests stretched their lead to a pair as senior midfielder Rachel Mick scored off a corner kick. Soucia took the corner and senior defender Kathleen Tuechler headed the ball to Mick whose shot found the twine.
In net, Fenn made four saves in a losing effort for the Falcons. On the opposite end, Molin earned her third win of the autumn.
Albertus Magnus returns to action on Saturday, September 10, with a road conference clash against Saint Joseph's (Maine) at 1:00 pm. The Falcons erased a three-goal deficit to score a 4-3 overtime victory at home versus the Monks last October.
