Women's Basketball Drops Road Game To Babson

BABSON PARK, Mass. - The Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team lost a 74-50 non-conference game to Babson College on Saturday evening.

Ariellys Velez (Watertown, Conn.) scored a game-high 21 points on 10-for-16 shooting, while Adriana DeBernardo (Stratford, Conn.) scored 16 points with six rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Falcons scored the first four points of the game as Debernardo and Isabella Fiorillo (West Haven, Conn.) had baskets early on. The Falcons didn't allow a point to Babson until 6:34 of the first when Julia St. Laurent made a layup. After Albertus took a 6-3 lead after a layup from DeBernardo, Kylie Rosenberg hit back-to-back threes for Babson. With Albertus trailing 11-10 with 3:45 left in the first, Babson went on an 11-2 run to close out the quarter and took a 20-12 lead. Velez had six points in the first. Rosenberg had eight points for Babson.
  • Babson upped its lead to 28-15 with 7:54 left in the second, but an 8-2 run from the Falcons cut their deficit to 30-23. Albertus once again fell behind by 13 points at 37-24 with 1:39 left, but a basket from Ava Johnson (North Haven, Conn.) fueled a 5-0 run to end the half as Albertus trailed just 37-29.
  • The Beavers scored the first six points of the second half to take a 43-29 lead and eventually grew their lead to 53-34 halfway through the third quarter as Emily Flynn had 10 points during the early run. Babson went into the fourth with a 60-39 lead. Velez scored four points in the third for Albertus.
  • DeBernardo scored seven points in the fourth quarter for Albertus, but the Falcons did not get any closer than 19 points the rest of the way.
