Falcons Shutout Emerson 2-0 in Men's Soccer

Jamal Howard (West Haven, Conn.) and Lindsley Barrett (Shelton, Conn.) both scored as the Albertus Magnus men's soccer team earned its ninth-straight victory with a 2-0 win over Emerson on Saturday afternoon.

Howard tallied the game-winning goal in the opening half before Barrett extended the Falcons' lead to 2-0 in the 32nd minute.

The victory improves the Falcons' record to 10-2 on the year and a perfect 7-0 in GNAC play, while Emerson drops to 6-6 overall and 4-2 in the conference standings.

In the 10th minute of play, Howard scored the Falcons' first goal of the contest as he finished off a corner kick in the box. Stephen Zapata (Hamden, Conn.) placed the corner kick right in front of the net, finding Nick Hamasian (Hamden, Conn.). Hamasian redirected the ball to the near post where Howard beat the keeper for his team-leading ninth goal of the season.

Zapata now has 12 assists on the year, a team best.

Barrett scored his seventh goal of the season as he broke by two defenders and shot the ball into the back of the net.  Howard sent the ball into the box to Barrett, for the senior's third assist of the year.

Howard took 12 shots, including five on goal, as the Falcons outshot Emerson 21-19. The Lions took a 12-11 clip in the second half despite being shutout.

Albertus' Donato Piroscafo (Naugatuck, Conn.) took the win for his fourth shutout of the season. He made eight saves, including a key stop just after the half-time break.  Emerson's Luca Parolin broke out of the pack on a throw in and headed the ball in the direction of the net. Piroscafo made a leaping save to keep the shutout intact.

Noah Price took the loss for the Lions as he made five saves in 90 minutes played.

Albertus will return to the pitch to host Anna Maria on Monday, Oct. 10 in a league contest scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
