Junior Lianna Carrero (Hamden, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus women's basketball team has been named the ECAC Division III New England Player of the Week.
After earning Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week honors on Monday, Carrero adds this accolade to her long list this season.
The Falcons' junior guard, who leads the Falcons with 21.0 points per game this season, used 21 second-half points to reach the 1,000-point plateau in the Falcons' 10th victory of the season on Saturday against St. Joseph's College (Brkln). Carrero is the 10th all-time Albertus Magnus women's basketball player to reach that coveted milestone, while she now has 1,003 career points.
Her 23-point effort along with her 22-point performance on Friday, Jan. 4 against Newbury College helped the Falcons to back-to-back victories in non-conference action last week.
Carrero shot 8-of-14 from the floor in the win over Newbury before shooting 11-of-11 from the free-throw line at the Barclays Center, home of the NBA's Nets, in the victory over St. Joseph's.
