Head coach Nick Wajnowski announced the 2011 Albertus Magnus women’s soccer schedule on Thursday morning. The Falcons’ 2011 18-game regular-season schedule features seven home contests and 13 league match-ups.
Albertus will begin the season with five consecutive road games, including a Great Northeast Athletic Conference opener at Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, Mass. on Sept. 10. The match at PMC sparks the start of 13-straight league matches, seven of which will be played on the Falcons’ home field.
The Falcons’ home-opener is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 4:00 p.m. against St. Joseph’s College (Conn.). That match will be played on the Falcons’ brand new turf field, which is scheduled to be ready for play for the start of the 2011 season. Three days after the home opener, Albertus will host St. Joseph’s of Maine at 1:00 p.m. before going on the road to play the 2009 GNAC Tournament champion, Simmons College, on Wednesday, Sept. 21.
The Falcons will face 2010 GNAC regular-season champion Suffolk on Wednesday, Oct. 5 in Boston, Mass. and will host 2010 runner-up Lasell on Oct. 22. Other home contests for the Falcons include September matches against Johnson & Whales (R.I.) (Sept. 24) and Mt. Ida (Sept. 28) as well as October meetings with Emerson (Oct. 8) and Anna Maria (Oct. 19). Anna Maria will compete in the GNAC for the first time beginning in the fall.
Last season, Wajnowski led his team to a 10-8-1 overall mark, tying a program record in wins, which Wajnowski and his 2007 squad registered in his first season as the Falcons’ head coach. The women’s soccer program had four student-athletes earn conference accolades last season as well, led by Sarah Boudreau who was tagged with First Team All-Conference honors.
In 2011, the Falcons will look to make their third-straight appearance to the GNAC postseason tournament. In conference play in 2010, Albertus finished 7-4-1, good for fifth place in the conference standings and a postseason appearance.
