New Haven, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College women's tennis team fell to visiting Simmons, 6-1, in a rain-shortened Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match on Saturday afternoon at the Celentano Courts.
The Falcons (4-4, 2-2) were able to take a point from the Sharks (5-5, 4-1) for the first time under Head Coach Bob Migliorini.
In doubles action, Simmons jumped out to an early edge by taking all three matches. Albertus Magnus battled at No. 2 as the Falcon tandem of sophomores Alicia Weaver (Bethel, Conn.) and Izzy Sabino (Cheshire, Conn.) dropped a heartbreaker, 9-8 (7-5).
In singles play, the guests won three of the matches to bounce back from their first conference loss in their last 60 regular season matches. Two of the matches were not finished due to inclement weather that hit the New Haven area. The lone Falcon point on the day came from Sabino at No. 3 singles. Sabino was dominant against her Shark opponent, scoring a 6-4, 6-2, straight-set triumph.
Albertus Magnus returns to action on Monday, October 10, with a road conference showdown against Johnson & Wales in the Ocean State.
