Freshman Spencer Smith (New Haven, Conn.) has been named this week's Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Smith played 39 minutes last week for the Falcons as he was 3-of-7 from the field for six points. He played a solid 26 minutes at Suffolk University in the Falcons' 89-77 come-from-behind victory.
During that contest, he was 2-for-5 from the field, hitting two key shots in the second half of play. His first bucket cut the Rams' lead to two less than seven minutes into the frame, while his second basket gave the Falcons a four-point advantage just under the 10-minute mark as part of a 16-0 Albertus run.
Sophomore Darius Watson (New Britain, Conn.) had a stellar week for the Falcons as well and was named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll for his efforts.
Watson played all 40 minutes in both contests as he shot an impressive 21-of-36 from the floor for 58.3-percent. He was 5-of-11 from behind the arc for a 45.5-percent showing, while he hit 14 of his 16 attempts from the charity stripe. On the week, Watson tallied 61 points, a 30.5 per game average in 80 minutes of work.
On Saturday, Jan. 7 at Suffolk, Watson scored 33 points, just two shy of his career-high. He scored 24 of his 33 points in the second half, leading the Falcons over Suffolk by 12 after a 10-point halftime deficit.
The Falcons head to Rivier College on Tuesday night to take on the Raiders in GNAC action beginning at 7:00 p.m.
