For the second time in the last three weeks, Albertus Magnus men's basketball senior Ray Askew (Hamden, Conn.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Player of the Week, while he was also named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week for his efforts.
Askew led the Falcons with 83 points in the 2-0 week as Albertus improved to 22-1 on the year and 16-0 in league play. Askew scored a career-high 52 points to lead the Falcons in their come-from-behind 76-73 win at Lasell on Saturday, Feb. 11. His 52 points and 10 rebounds in Saturday's game marked his 10th double-double of the season, while it also marked his eighth game with 30 or more points.
Askew added a 31-point and seven-rebound performance in the Falcons' non-conference win at Trinity on Feb. 7 as he now has 2,153 career points and is just 81 points shy of the Albertus Magnus men's basketball record of 2,234 held by Tim Russell '05. Askew already holds both the GNAC and Albertus Magnus all-time rebounding records (1,119).
For the third-straight week and the fifth of the season, freshman Spencer Smith (New Haven, Conn.) has been recognized by the GNAC for his efforts. Smith is a three-time Rookie of the Week selection and this week was named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll. This week marks the second time this season that Smith has been named to the league's honor roll.
Albertus will head to Providence on Tuesday night to face Johnson & Wales in a key GNAC match-up. Tonight's game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
